Well readers, its official! I’ll soon be certified in wine. For months, wow years at this point I guess, I have been babbling on and on about my wine opinions and tastings of the world’s greatest agricultural bi-product. Working for an international distributor has exposed me to hundreds of varietals from all over; however, I started becoming all too familiar with gaps in my cellar of knowledge. I taste value wines typically and have been much more concerned with the end product than what actually goes on at vineyard sites. I honestly know nothing about sherry and port. France is like a jigsaw puzzle that I have started piecing together but haven’t experienced the joy of tackling that monster for good.
Summer represents a slower season as most consumers flee to shore towns. I sat reading my monthly Wine Spectator a month ago and felt a sudden urge to pursue a goal I’ve been thinking about for a while. Ah heck, why not enroll in a four month program that officially deems me an expert on wine?! I will be reading technical data on a scientific level, blind tasting and identifying grapes, and most importantly solidifying my passion for this industry. As I read through my materials, I hope you’ll enjoy the ride with me. Forgive me foodies, my recipe sharing will be somewhat dominated by wine posts for the summer. I just posted a home-made barbecue sauce, what else could anyone possibly need for the warm season ahead? Ciao, see you in wine country!
