22 AprDivine Wine for Easter: Wondering what to serve with that masterpiece you’ve been planning for Sunday’s feast? I am not the type to leave someone in the dust with a stylish dress and no heels to match. A few menu items come to mind when considering the traditional Easter fare… elaborate brunches, ham spreads, and lamb roasts. See below for what I’ll be sipping this Easter.
Sunny Side Up: After your sunrise service… the egg casserole comes steaming out of the oven, you’re three cups of coffee down, what will you sip on next?! Prosecco and juice of course. If you can track down guava juice, I’d highly recommend it with this bubbly alternative to Champagne. If not, Prosecco, a northern Italian sparkling wine will suit perfectly for your orange juice mimosa creation.
Ham Heaven: I literally dream of the brown sugared crust on ham the night before a holiday like Easter. The melt in your mouth flavors and saltiness from the meat excites my palate more than finding the last hidden egg around the house. I find that Chardonnay is the best accompaniment. The buttery component will bring out the sugars in the ham and create the ultimate caramel sensation. Not a white wine lover? Go for a Pinot Noir.
Tender at the Bone: Lamb has recently become my favorite dark meat. An amazing alternative to cow’s beef, it really doesn’t get more juicy and tender than that. With this meal option, I would recommend a Rhone style blend. Originally from the Rhone Valley in France and now very prevalent in Australia and Paso Robles, California, a Grenache-Syrah(Shiraz) blend will suit perfectly. Grenache has a finesse that matches the tenderness in the meat. Considering this is a rich meat, Syrah will give it the structure it needs. Feminine meats masculine creating the ultimate marriage.
Happy Easter!
