A cookie with a wine pairing?! Gingerbread men and California Cabernet have become a cold weather treat you won’t be able to resist.
When I was a kid, I often laid awake for hours on Christmas Eve. Bug eyed and bursting with excitement, I fantasized about the gifts under the tree. As I grow older, the spirit of Christmas has transformed into an entirely new event. More than anything, I love spending time with my family and friends. Glass of wine in one hand, fork to mouth in the other; I savor the meal and the experience.
This season, I created the perfect Christmas recipe for your gift giving. Five hours in the kitchen, bottle of California Cabernet, ingredients for gingerbread men, and music. A few weeks ago, I baked cookies all day with one of my closest friends. We drank wine, laughed until we cried, and as a result I had a thoughtful gift to hand out to customers.
As the temperatures drop, forfeit your time spent in the blustering cold parking lots. Rather than attempting last-minute shopping, relax with a glass of Pozzan Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and get out your baking sheets. Michael Pozzan, a producer of Napa and Sonoma wines, brings an incomparable finesse and value to the glass. When consuming these wines, it’s as if you gave someone twenty dollars and they’ve returned fifty. Produced in the Knights Valley, a viticultural designation in Sonoma that borders Napa, the Cabernet grape thrives on the warm days and cool nights. These near perfect conditions allow the grapes to fully ripen and create an earthy, velvety sensation on the palate. Pozzan prefers a European technique of subtlety with the oak and balanced flavor. Aged thirteen months in french oak, the barreling provides notes of vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg that complement gingerbread cookies very well. Who knew cookies and wine could be such a delightful pairing?!
Give a gift from the heart this season and enjoy your time creating it. Merry Christmas and Cheers!
* Food Network magazine released a delicious home-made gingerbread recipe this year if you don’t already have a family favorite.
